Elko County Library Book Fair @ Elko Country Library

The Elko County Library is hosting its annual Spring Scholastic Book Fair from Monday April 8th through Saturday April 20th. With a great selection of books for all ages and interests, the book fair is a perfect opportunity to stock up on books for our summer reading program and your family vacations. Proceeds from the fair go toward craft and program supplies and for some of our special events, such as Spring Eggstravaganza and Halloween Carnival. Calvary Baptist Church Easter Celebration @ Southside Elementary School

7th Annual Easter Celebration April 20th @ 1pm on grass field @ Southside Elementary School in Elko NV. This is 100% free to all, come and enjoy music, arts and crafts, story time and a Giant egg hunt 6,000 eggs strong. This is hosted by Calvary Baptist church in Elko.

2019 Elko County Sage-grouse Experience
Apr 20 @ 4:30 pm – 4:30 pm

Saturday, April 20, people will have a chance to view sage-grouse strutting on a lek. The group will leave Elko at 4:30am for Ruby Valley. After the lek viewing, the group will return to the Elko Basque Club, for a brunch, presentations and hands-on activities concerning the bird. This free event includes an event souvenir. Complete a social work degree in rural Nevada @ GBC Pahrump Valley Center Rm 120

In collaboration with Great Basin College, the University of Nevada’s School of Social Work program offers a dynamic schedule for students who reside in rural Nevada and wish to pursue a bachelor’s degree in social work—a profession that also happens to be in high demand in rural Nevada.

Through this program, all students in the GBC’s are of outreach are able to complete the equivalent of the first three years of academic study at GBC through online classes and interactive video classes.

Students complete their final year of study as a UNR student through online classes while completing an internship in their own communities. They must attend a weekend class once a month at UNR.

Social workers perform a broad spectrum of duties ranging from child and family social workers, gerontology, mental health, social justice and more.

Two open houses will be held in April for those interested in learning more about the degree.

The first open house will be held live in Elko Tuesday, April 16 at 5:30 p.m. in the Dorothy Gallagher Health Sciences Building room 108. The open house will be broadcasted interactive video at GBC centers in Battle Mountain room 4, Ely room 118, Pahrump room115, Winnemucca room 124.

The second open house will be held live at the Pahrump valley Center room 120 Tuesday April 23 at 5:30 p.m. The open house will be broadcasted interactive video at GBC centers in Battle Mountain room 4, Ely room 118, Elko Dororthy Gallagher Health Sciences room108, and Winnemucca room 124.

Take Pride in Your Community Clean Up

This year’s Take Pride in Your Community Clean Up, Greenup, Recycling Event has been set for Saturday April 27th. Volunteers are needed throughout Elko County to give a few hours of time to clean, green or recycle our public areas that we all enjoy. There are a number of incentives and raffle prized forcolunteers. For an opportunity to leace an everlasting sense of pride in our communities please contact the City of Elko by calling 777-7210, Spring Creek Association 753-6295 or P.A.C.E. Coalition at 777-3451. Registration starts February 1st and forms are available on the City of Elko website @ www.elkocity.com.

After-School Crafts @ Your Public Library
May 1 @ 2:00 pm – 4:00 pm

Join Elko County Library for some creative fun with “After-School Crafts @ Your Public Library.” These crafts will be held every first and third Wednesday of the month through April 18th. Preregistration is required and there is no cost. This program is designed for children 5 and older. Drop by the library to register, or call 738-3066 for additional information.
