Elko County School Superintendent Todd Pehrson described several events and activities related to back-to-school. The district has hired new teachers and administrators, the RISE program kicks of August 12-16, Fall Sports begin soon, Liberty Peak Elementary in Spring Creek will host an Open House on August 22, and school safety reminds a priority for the district with plans to hire additional School Resource Officers for on-campus.
Elko City Police Chief Tyler Trouten and County Sheriff Aitor Narvaiza discussed enforcement issues surrounding an extended closure of non-essential businesses to prevent the spread of COVID-19. The pair also underscored the need for support of those with mental illness and emphasized social distancing and good hygiene practices. Chief Trouten urged OHV safety in city limits.
