Great Basin College Foundation Director Matt McCarty discusses the college fundraising campaign asking locals to “Invest a Day’s Pay” by donating at least $140 per resident. GBC has also embarked on a sports program which will require matching community donations. The Foundation reported on a successful GBC Dinner Dance Gala this spring. The institution continues to recover from state funding reductions and is eyeing more budget cuts in the upcoming biennium. Elko City Police Chief Tyler Trouten and County Sheriff Aitor Narvaiza discussed enforcement issues surrounding an extended closure of non-essential businesses to prevent the spread of COVID-19. The pair also underscored the need for support of those with mental illness and emphasized social distancing and good hygiene practices. Chief Trouten urged OHV safety in city limits.
