Elko City Mayor Reece Keener hosted an update in city news with a discussion on recent developments surrounding the Barrick Newmont joint venture now known as Nevada Gold Mines, acknowledged pending updates to City Building and Fire codes and expressed appreciation for local veterinarians who support the Local Animal Shelter Support Organization.
Elko City Police Chief Tyler Trouten and County Sheriff Aitor Narvaiza discussed enforcement issues surrounding an extended closure of non-essential businesses to prevent the spread of COVID-19. The pair also underscored the need for support of those with mental illness and emphasized social distancing and good hygiene practices. Chief Trouten urged OHV safety in city limits.
