State Champion Elks Hoop Shoot Contest winner Hunter Smartt advances to National Semi-Finals
On Feb 16th the Nevada Elks Organization held their annual Bud Lemmond State Champion Hoop Shoot competition. The event was named in 2012 after long time Elks State Hoop Shoot Director Charles “Bud” Lemmond. The Great Basin Elks Lodge # 1472 was represented by three District winners from our local area, Pilar Ruiz, Hunter Smartt and Ricky Lund, who all traveled to Hawthorne Nevada to compete. Hunter won 1st place in the boys 8-9 year old making 21 free throws out of 25. Pilar Ruiz and Ricky Lund both placed 2nd in the girls and boys 10-11 age groups respectively. Hunter next advances to stage 4 of this 5 stage competition to the West Region 7 Hoop Shoot Semi-Finals held in Las Vegas Nevada on March 9th where he will represent the state of Nevada as he competes against other 8-9 year old boy state winners from Arizona, California, Hawaii and Utah. The Regional winners advance to the National Finals held in Chicago, Illinois this April.
Great Basin Elks are very proud of the hard work and commitment exhibited by these three young winners. Congratulations to each of you!
