(August 7, 2020) – Elko BLM District Manager Gerald Dixon hosted local Fire Prevention specialist Clint Mothershed to talk about expanded fire restrictions on public lands statewide. More than 80-percent of wild land fires so far this year have been human-caused. Hunting season, camping, recreating and any number of public uses enhances the opportunity for an accidental fire start. BLM officials discussed fire prevention, fire resources and the importance of protecting and preserving public lands for multiple use.
Nevada Association of School Boards Director of Training Deb Dudley and Acting Elko County School Board President Teresa Dastrup discuss the process of filling five vacancies on the governing board, describing successful candidates as “someone who will put children first.” The Elko County School Board has endured weeks of contention culminating in the resignation of five of the seven board members, the abrupt resignation of Dr. Michelle Robinson who was just a year into the position, an interim superintendent stepping back from the fray, and a superintendent search back to square one after all but one candidate backed out of consideration.
